Hanna Korhonen

Hanna Korhonen is a dancer-choreographer and a wide-ranging art maker, who graduated from the Turku Conservatory as a professional dancer and from the University of the Arts (Helsinki) with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in dance.

Korhonen has worked as a professional dance artist for 23 years and performed in more than 70 professional productions, among others in Tsuumi Dance Theatre’s own and collaborative productions. Currently, the focus of Korhonen’s work is acting as a dancer-choreographer and performer in the free field of art.

Korhonen has also applied her artistic knowledge to various environments, and has worked for a long time in e.g. with mental health rehabilitators of different ages and investigative youth work.

In the years 2013-2016, Korhonen worked at The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) in Ostrobothnia as a Regional Artist for audience outreach. Korhosen also has experience in various background organizations in the cultural field as well as expert and development tasks.

From January 2021 to June 2022, Korhonen worked as the artistic and production director of Tsuumi Dance Theatre (part of the time on parental leave). She also worked in the artistic working group planning the repertoire of the Kokkola Winter Dance festival in the years 2019, 2020, 2021.

Currently, Korhonen works as a freelance artist and implements various performing arts projects both on stage and in other environments. In addition, she works, among other things, in the development work group of the Ostrobothnia Regional Center for Dance.

Korhonen is from Pirkkala. She has lived and worked in Helsinki and Seinäjoki for a long time. A few years ago, she returned to her birthplace, first to Nokia and then to Pirkkala.

Project “The Moving Poems”

“The moving poems” is an ongoing concept created by dance artist Hanna Korhonen, which was started in 2018. In this concept, contemporary dance and soundscapes are created for contemporary poems and prose texts. Korhonen continues to work on this concept every year whenever possible, and creates new “moving poems” always with new communities and professional artists.

Previous performances of “The movement poems” concept have been seen in on Seinäjoki and Nokia, and as a video work that can be viewed here.

The latest work of the concept of The Moving Poems is called ‘My Dreams Are Not Afraid of the Dark’. It will have its premiere at Liikelaituri on October 6, 2023. Read more about the work here.
